These are the pages at the beginning of the book, before the story even starts.
Do they give you any more clues about the story? Where it is set or who the characters are?

Read the story
Pause during the story when there are examples of Sam or Alice behaving like a good friend. Especially where there are examples of sharing, taking turns, being considerate of each other's feelings, being helpful, doing things together etc.
After the story
Return to the part in the story where Sam and Alice start to fight over the egg. Has this ever happened to you and a very close friend?
Does it mean the end of your friendship if you have a disagreement like this? Can you ever be friends again?
How did they both feel? Why do you think Sam felt like crying?
What happened, to bring them back together again?
What did they do differently the second time?
When were they the happiest in the story? Look at the last page and to what Alice said. That is a clue about when they are the happiest.
They didn't actually say sorry to one another but their actions showed that they were willing to forgive. What were these actions?
Who was the better friend in the story? Sam or Alice? Or both? Why
What things do you like doing with a friend? Can you share with the class, a time when you had to share with a friend and take turns and how this made you feel.
