What is an Imaginative Text?

Let's look at the list . . . Which of these books would you say are "Imaginative Books"

Why have you called these ones Imaginative Texts?
Have a discussion with your teacher. You may not all agree with each other, that's ok but we want to start thinking about what makes a text a good imaginative one.

Unpack the posters with the children.
Look at all the Examples of Imaginative Text on the poster. Are imaginative texts just books?
Is an Imaginative Text just another way of saying story or a narrative? Discuss how the examples on the poster are ways of telling stories.
Some stories are better than others. What makes a good movie? (How the characters are portrayed? setting? How the story develops? Suspense? Creativity?.........)
What makes a good book? (How the characters are portrayed? setting? How the story develops? Suspense? Creativity?.........)
Is it just the words or the images?? Or both??
We may not be able to answer all these questions today, but over the next few weeks we are going to be looking at some examples of Imaginative Text, particularly in literature. We will be looking at some of the elements of these texts that make them effective Imaginative Texts.
It will help you to become a better story writer and you'll discover some great books to read too!
