Read the Story
Right from the start the girls were encouraging and positive with Hugh. How do you think this helped him? How do you think this made Hugh feel? When someone encourages you, how does it make you feel?
Some things to think about???
What did the girls do when Hugh was having trouble following their instructions?
What do you think of their actions?
Why didn't hugh tell on the boys who were unkind to him? Should he have?
Nina thought the boys were guilty too. Why didn't she say anything? Do you think she was right not to say anything?
On the night of the contest it could have had a different ending. What else could have happened?
How did Nina Rose and Amy show how much they cared for their friend Hugh?
What did Doug and Brad do to make up for their mean actions the day before?
When the two girls were being wonderfully kind and supportive to their friend Hugh, their good actions also had an effect on others in the story. What other characters in the story, were able to learn from their example?
Can you think of a situation in the playground where you could stick up for a friend who needs your help? It may be someone who needs a friend to play with or it may be someone who is being picked on by others and needs you to help them out. What could you do?
