Meet the Author - Sue deGennaro
This is Sue de Gennaro and she is the author and illustrator of this book called The Pros and Cons of Being a Frog. This is the first time she has written as well as illustrated. She is usually the one creating the pictures. You may recognise some of the other books she has illustrated from the pictures below. We have them in our library and you might like to try and borrow them.
Look at the cover
With your teacher, take a few minutes to discuss the title and what the words mean.
I wonder what this story might be about? Can you get any clues from the cover?
Are the two characters friends or friendly? Why do you think they might be friends? How have they been drawn?
Why are all those numbers there?

Read the story
Take some time to read the story carefully.
After reading ...
Why does the little boy like Camille?
What does Camille like doing?
What does the boy like to do?
Does the boy try to understand how Camille thinks? How do you know this? (notice that when he shouts at Camille to stop wriggling, he says it in numbers as well)
Does Camille like to dress up too?
What does Camille do for the boy to show that she is his friend?
What does the frogboy do when they have a fight and Camille storms off? How does the list help him to sort out his feelings and take action? Is it better to stop and think before you do anything?
Do you think Camille was on her way to say sorry as well?
When you say sorry, how does that help your friendship? How does it make you feel when you say sorry? Is it easy to do?
Is it really possible to have a friend who likes different things to you?
With your teacher, write a pros and cons chart of being friends with someone different from you.
